Being workaholic is an unhealthy condition, similar to other “aholics”. When a person is workaholic, he or she is addicted to work and has a mindset that they are the only ones who can get the job done. More often than not, this is a sign of having priorities not in proper order.

Workaholics spend more time with work rather than family. For instance, they would rather work with the Motherboard for computer than take time to talk to their mothers. Workaholics do not have time for the personal, spiritual and family life. This means that they lack balance in their lives.

If you feel that you are one of those people who are categorized as workaholics, step back and ask yourself  if you have been sacrificing some important areas in your lives. Then if you are, it is time to bring the balance back into your life. How would you do that? Here are some steps that may help you:

  • Devote only a specific number of hours in your job and you should be able to set the limit.
  • Spend quality time for your personal pleasures as well as your personal relationships.
  • Divert your energy and creativity into a particular hobby, this would take your mind off your work.
  • Being workaholic could be a sign of insecurity, thus you need to confront your fear. You may want to ask assistance from a counselor to help you with this.
  • Become more sensitive to the needs of your family and friends; these people would love to spend time with you too.

Regaining the balance in your life will make it more easier for you to achieve your goals. Do not kill yourself with stress from work; nobody is indispensable to any company or employer. Ask yourself, if it is really all worth the exhaustion and stress. Remember that you do not have the power to bring back the time lost from spending it too much for work. It is important to set your priorities straight too.
